It pains me to share that the SUNYLA 2020 annual conference will no longer take place at MVCC. The conference will take place virtually sometime around June 17-19. The schedule may be condensed to not cover the whole three day period. Do continue to save those dates in your calendars in the meantime. There are many details yet to be ironed out, but I wanted to let everyone know about this switch early so you can plan ahead. Please cancel hotel reservations if you have already made them.
Please know that I didn’t come upon this decision lightly. The SUNYLA conference is my favorite networking and professional development event of the year. Now more than ever, I’m craving the need to meet, share, and above all laugh with my fellow library professionals. It will not be the same online, BUT the planning committee is trying to come up with creative options to keep the social spirit of the conference. Having the conference online will also provide unique opportunities to record and archive sessions.
For those of you that have submitted presentation proposals, Alana Nuth will be in touch with you about acceptance. Those that are accepted, please reflect on whether or not your presentation will be beneficial given the new delivery method. You can always present next year if you don’t feel your presentation translates well to the online environment. There will be a form sent to accepted presenters to indicate their willingness to present virtually and an option to change the session format (i.e. change a breakout session to a lightning talk).
Registration for the online conference is not available yet, and it has not been decided whether or not there will be a registration fee. IF there is a registration fee, it will be minimal.
Feel free to use the online contact form with any conference questions. Take care and stay safe.
